How to Set Images Alt Text?

Setting an alternative text for images in your content. This text appears in case the image couldn't be displayed. This process helps the search engine to understand what the image is about. On the other hand, these Alt texts describe the image for blind readers who read your article which makes them a strong improvement tool for your content.

You should put alt texts for your images once you upload a new image.

 

How to Set Alternative text for a new image

  • Open your WordPress, and go to media in the left dashboard then select the library.
  • Under the “Library” choose “Add New”.

 

  • You can add a new image by 2 ways: The drag and drop method or click on “Select Files' ' and find it on your computer.

 

  • When the image appears, click on “Edit”. .

  • When the editor is opened, scroll below the image and type the alternative text in the “Alternative text” box. .

  • Now, just click on “Update to save it”.

 

Setting Alternative text for images from the Library

If you already have some images, but we you wanna put alternative text for them, follow these steps:

  • Open your WordPress, and go to media in the left dashboard then select the library.

  • In this section, you have all media uploaded to your site.

  • Just click on any of them to set alternative text.

  • On the right side, you will get many boxes for setting a title, description, alternative text, etc.. Go to the “Alternative Text” box and type your alternative text. .

  • Everything will be updated automatically. Just finish and click on “X” to exit the editor.

 

Conclusion

Make sure that your alt text is informative for Google telling the search engine what the image is about. Don’t just say “house” for example. Instead, you can say house of the family, house made of wood, etc…
