When they get the data, Google Analytics generates detailed reports to tell you the number of visitors, sources of traffic, average session duration, bounce rates, page views, goal completions and a lot more.

The page tag gathers visitor information. However, the whole process relies on cookies, so the data of visitors who disabled cookies cannot be collected.

How to set up Google Analytics

To set up Google Analytics with your website or blogger and start collecting the basic data, follow these steps:

Step 1: Create an Analytics account or sign in

If you don’t have a google analytics account, go to and click on Start for free.

If you already have one, then you just click Sign in to Analytics.

Step 2: Set up a property in your Analytics account

When we say property, we mean your website, landing page or app which we want to collect its data using Google Analytics.

1- Name your property

To create the property, choose a name (e.g. Name it with your Domain, Your Name or anything that reflects your business).

2- Select the reporting time zone and currency

Here, you have to select the reporting time zone (mainly you should choose your time zone) and currency (USD is highly recommended).

Google Analytics is an intelligent platform, so if your time zone honours Daylight Savings Time, the platform will adjust for time changes automatically. You can ignore these features by choosing Greenwich Mean Time.

Any change in the time zone will affect the future data, but the analytics servers may need a few hours to process this change. Therefore, don't worry if you get data referred to your old time zone for a short period.

3- Advanced Options

After setting up the property-setup fields, scroll down and click "Show advanced options".

4- Turn on the switch to become blue beside Create a Universal Analytics property.

5- Go down and type the website URL. Don't forget to select HTTP or HTTPS.

6- At this point, you can choose between a Google Analytics 4 property and a Universal Analytics property only.

7- Click Next and write all the needed information about your website then click Create.

8- Accept the Analytics Terms of Service as well as the Data Processing Amendment if found, then click Finish.

Step 3: Add Google Analytics tag to your website

At this step, you have to add a Google Analytics tag to your website. It is so easy, you just need access to the HTML of your website, blogger or host (this depends on the kind of platform you use).

1- Open your Google Analytics account and look for the Javascript tracking code.

2- Now, go to your website and paste the whole tag in the header

You will start to see data within 30 minutes.

WordPress, Hubspot, Shopify, Squarespace and many other CMS platforms usually have a section or a plugin which you can install and just copy-paste your Google Analytics account ID to set up Google Analytics.


How to set up Google Analytics in WordPress?

If you have Wordpress, follow these steps to set up Google Analytics on your website:

· Open your website.

· Go to your dashboard.

· Choose the Appearance from the left Menu.

· Choose Theme Editor.

· Find the header.php in the right side of the dashboard beside the Html code.

  • Paste the tag after the <head> then Click Update File.

Congratulations, Google Analytics is successfully added to your WordPress, and you can start to see data within 48 hours on your Google Analytics Account.
